چکیده

Introduction Over the last fifty years gas-solids fluidized beds have played a very important role in many areas in the process industry, especially in chemical and petroleum industries. The existence of different flow regimes in fluidized beds at different operating conditions has been known for a long time and numerous studies have been carried out to define the flow regimes [1-6]. It is well accepted that with increasing gas velocity, the bed goes through particulate fluidization, bubbling fluidization, turbulent fluidization, fast fluidization and pneumatic transport [7]. According to the experimental evidence available in the literature so far, a common way to classify the flow regimes is to determine the transition velocities by means of different measurement techniques and interpretation methods [6, 8-9]. The transition velocities have been found to be influenced by many factors such as solids properties [10-12], solids inventory [13], column diameter [14], distributor design [15-16], operating temperature and pressure [17-18], the measuring techniques and data analysis methods [19]. Therefore it should be very careful to compare the regimes transition velocities obtained with different flow systems and different data analysis methods.

Evaluation of Eulerian Two-Fluid Numerical Method for the Simulation of Heat Transfer in Fluidized Beds

Accurate modeling of fluidization and heat transfer phenomena in gas-solid fluidized beds is not solely dependent  on the particular selected numerical model and involved algorithms. In fact, choosing the right model for each specific operating condition, the correct implementation of each model, and the right choice of parameters and boundary conditions, determine the accuracy of the results i...

The Influence of the Distributor Plate on the Bottom Zone of a Fluidized Bed Approaching the Transition from Bubbling to Turbulent Fluidization

T he dynamics of the bottom zone of a narrow fluidized bed, from bubbling to turbulent regimes, was studied in a cold model of 0.1 m i.d. and 1.3 m high. Tested distributor types were perforated perspex plates, with six different perforation grids, metallic mesh and porous ceramic, with pressures drops ranging from 0.05 to 350 kPa, corresponding to superficial air velocities from 0.1 to 2.3 m s...

Effect of Pressure on Flow Behaviors in Dense Gas- Fluidized Beds: a Discrete Particle Simulation Study

A computational study has been carried out to assess the influence of pressure on the flow behaviors in dense gas-fluidized beds. Therefore the discrete particle simulation approach has been employed to study the regime transitions, local two-phase flow structures and the energy dissipation distribution. The results show that high pressure reduces the incipient fluidization velocity, widens the...

Experimental and Theoretical Investigation on the Mechanism of Transient Bubble Images in Fluidized-Bed Combustors Systematic Interpretation and Analysis

The transient bubble behavior was experimentally investigated to fundamentally understand the transient motion of gas bubbles in freely bubbling fluidized beds, simulating the FBC systems. Due to the oversimplified traditional two phase flow model concepts developed and most of the related numerous experimental works from 1960s to 1980s, the transient bubble behaviors could not have received du...

CFD-DEM Investigation on van der Waals Force in Gas-Solid Bubbling Fluidized Beds

Effect of interparticle force on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds was investigated using the combined method of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method (CFD-DEM). The cohesive force between particles was considered to follow the van der Waals equation form. The model was validated by experimental results from literature in terms of bed voidage distribution and Eule...
